hexchat-python software package provides Python 2 plugin for HexChat, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install hexchat-python
hexchat-python is installed in your system.
Make ensure the hexchat-python package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep hexchat-python *
You will get with hexchat-python package name, version, architecture and description in a table
